Edible Education

Our campus based program gives students the opportunity to learn about healthy foods and the natural world in a vibrant and active outdoor classroom environment.  Our program supports and enhances academic excellence and achievement through engaging, interactive hands-on learning experiences in the garden. Curiosity is awakened by the genuine interaction with nature. Students will gain life skills as they participate in all aspects of planting, maintaining and harvesting the garden.  Through this process they will learn how to make healthy choices, learn responsibility through caring for the garden and the satisfaction of hard work.  Our curriculum and program format is fully replicable campus and district wide, and is supported and supervised by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD).

Community Partnerships

Community engagement and involvement is an important element of the PVSG program and we have a number of partners and collaborators that help us continue this mission.  Our local Whole Foods store in Torrance, CA, has contributed supplies and ingredients for fundraising activities to support our school garden program and restaurants including Locale 90 and Good Stuff have agreed to partner with PVSG to not only use fruits and vegetables harvested from our gardens in their kitchen, but also to hold fundraisers to support our garden program.  PVSG has also partnered with PVPUSD Food Services over the last several years to replace unhealthy snack options with healthier choices, and introduced organic, non-gmo and whole grain options to the menu, as well as to include PVSG produce into the campus salad bars.   Click here to see our full list of community partners.
